Where, When, and How

All rehearsals and major concerts are held at First Baptist Church of Decatur, located at

Auditions

Ages 6–11 | Apprentice Choir/Advanced Choir

Sing a favorite song — something they know well and enjoy singing, such as a Christmas carol, hymn, folk song, or even “Happy Birthday”
Match pitch with the Director at the piano
Echo-clap simple rhythms

If a prospective singer enjoys singing at home, school, church, or synagogue, they will likely
do well in the Voicing Audition.

Ages 12–18 | Ars Cantabile / Chamber Singers

Sing a song of the singer’s choice a cappella
Sing major, minor, and chromatic scales using Solfege (DO, RE, MI, etc.)
Match pitch with the Director using examples from Ars Cantabile level music
Sight-sing a four-measure example that begins and ends on DO (the first note of the major scale).

Registration

Registration will open in December for the DACC Spring semester.

Once your singer has received confirmation that they have passed the Voicing Audition, please submit the Enrollment Form found under the Members section of this website.

Steps to Enroll

2. Receive placement
3. Register for semester *

* The Enrollment Form should be submitted only AFTER you have received confirmation that your singer has passed the audition.

TUITION

Each participant pays a modest tuition that is kept low thanks to donations from our generous supporters. For the 2026–2027 season, the full-year fee is $375 and covers expenses such as space rental, printed music materials, advertising, and leadership stipends. Discounts are available for second and third siblings from the same household, for early registration, for students of the Decatur Fine Arts Academy, and for referrals when you bring a friend.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Need-based scholarships ranging from 25-50% tuition are available for qualifying families. Please email admin@decaturavondalecc.com to receive a scholarship request form.

Overview

DACC rehearsals take place at First Baptist Church of Decatur on Tuesday afternoons and evenings as follows:

Apprentice Choir | 4:15 PM to 4:55 PM
Advanced Choir | 5:05 PM to 5:55 PM
Chamber Singers | 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM and then singers join the Ars Cantabile rehearsals already in progress
Ars Cantabile | 6:05 PM to 7:00 PM

The choir year consists of Fall Semester from late August to early December, culminating in a Christmas and Holiday Concert; and Spring Semester from mid-January to late April, closing with a Spring Concert. The choir has additional smaller performance opportunities in the community throughout the year.
